"Many comics show a superhero, who is so 'Oberdrübermega'
and who saves the world. Mangas show normal, everyday people
and the story focuses on them and their daily-life problems."

"When you do LARP (Live Action Role Play) you get hit by a weapon made of rubber,
when doing a show-fight, you can only hope you don't get hit at all,
because those weapons are made out of solid steel, …"

Since 2006 we are taking pictures of teens and adults, interested in japanese youth-culture or also science-fiction and fantasy, LARP, comics, …
'Yume, Genjitsu' - dream and reality (2006 - .....)
is a project about cosplayers and their personal surroundings from all over Europe.
More than 300 people from Austria, Germany, UK, Hungary, … have participated so far, be it during a photo-shooting or an interview. I am no cosplayer myself. Yume, Genjitsu is a long-term project with video and audio material as supplement to the images just being prepared.
At the beginning of 2009, we have been asked at the „Next Comic“ Festival, where this >dress-up thing< (Verkleidungsdings) – the Cosplay-competition – takes place. That’s how we chose the book title. We simply wanted to show more than well made costumes. Our aim was – from the beginning – to show the motivation of the guys and girls involved, why they spend so much time, love and effort fort his hobby. They should get the chance to be heard, to answer questions, everyone of them has heard a million times since they started doing cosplay, … in their own words.
Eva Schimmer
Our main attention was always focused on the person wearing the costume, their personality, their essence, their manner.
The pictures show them during those very rare moments, when the real person and the cosplayed character begin to fuse.
Joy, soulfulness, creativity, social contacts, helping each other, … all this is cosplay as we were allowed to find out during numerous shootings. Holger R. Weimann
